9 out of 10 Pakistanis say country headed in wrong direction
Lahore, Dec. 20 (ANI): Nine out of ten Pakistanis have a high degree of discontent and said that their country is headed in a wrong direction, according to survey.
A recent survey conducted by International Republican Institute (IRI) reveals that high degree of hopelessness among 88 percent Pakistanis about the economic and political situation of their country.
Only 11 percent said Pakistan was headed in the right direction. The rating is even worse than the situation before last year's elections, the Daily Times reported.
Seventy three percent Pakistanis felt that their personal economic situation has improved in 2008, but 59 percent said they felt their economic situation would worsen during the upcoming year.
About 12 percent have admitted having faced bad economic conditions this year whereas, 14 percent saw no difference.
The poll also saw an increase in the number of people who felt unsafe after the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto. Last year, 15 percent people felt safe in Pakistan in contrast of 85 percent insecure population.
The startling survey is indicative of high-rise in the unpopularity of PPP-led government.
With 76 percent people dissatisfied with the government's performance. Only 21percent respondents supported the government.
Asked to rate various institutions, 31 percent of respondents said that they had a favourable impression of the government. It just touched previous government's 29 percent favourable rating in January 2008.
But the government has seen a remarkable drop from the last year's 80 percent favourable ratings just after the elections. (ANI)
