Kathmandu, Dec 4 : The Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) party has asked the Maoists to rope in Nepali Congress (NC) in the special committee on Army integration.

On Wednesday, UML delegation led by its General Secretary Jhal Nath Khanal, met Prime Minister Prachanda and made this request.

The UML delegation told Prachanda that without the participation of the Nepali Congress, the committee would become meaningless.

Talking to reporters, Khanal said that he asked Prachanda to adopt a liberal approach regarding the composition of the army integration special committee by considering the demand of the Nepali Congress.

"Dispute over the number of representatives in the special committee should be resolved right away so as not to further complicate the integration issue", Khanal added.

Although the government had formed the committee led by UML leader and Deputy Prime Minister Bamdev Gautam a month ago, the Nepali Congress has stayed away from it demanding equal participation and implementation of past pacts.

The committee has two members from the Maoists and the Nepali Congress has also demanded two members from its side.

The Nepali Congress has also demanded that terms of reference of the committee be same as was agreed in earlier pacts, Nepalnews reported.
