UGC Chairman inaugurates ACU Conference

Hyderabad, Nov 28 (UNI) University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Sukhadeo Thorat inaugurated the three-day Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Conference of Executive Heads at Hyderabad International Convention Centre here today.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Thorat called upon the participating executive heads to utilise the session for the next three days in debating and identifying new areas, which can benefit education across the globe.

The conference, being organised by the ACU along with the University of Hyderabad and Maulana Azad National Urdu University, will address the theme of ''Dazzling technologies: Seismic shifts in higher education in a fast changing and unequal world'', a press release here said.

The inaugural session was chaired by ACU Chair and Open University, UK, Vice-Chancellor Professor Brenda Gourley. The speakers, included Maulana Azad National Urdu University Vice Chancellor A M Pathan and University of Hyderabad Vice Chancellor Seyed E Hasnain.

As many as 170 Vice Chancellors of Universities from the Commonwealth countries and executive heads were participating in the conference.

The Vice Chancellors from Universities in the United Kingdom, Tanzania, Australia, Canada, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Jamaica, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Spain and India were also participating in the conference, the release added.
