Pondy: Strict vigil to prevent breaches in lakes
Puducherry, Nov 25: Strict vigil is being maintained to prevent any breach in the tanks and lakes, which are fast filling up under the impact of incessent rain lashing Puducherry for the last five days.
Puducherry Public Works Department Chief Engineer Chandrapal Singh and Executive Engineer Sathyamurty today inspected the tanks and lakes to oversee their safety.
Of the 84 tanks and lakes, ten were filling fast due to steady inflow, he told newspersons here.
Officials were deputed to monitor the tanks and lakes, he said adding that instructions were given to desilt the channels of the tanks and lakes to avoid stagnation and to utilise the stored water in a judicious manner.
Puducherry received 1,077 mm rainfall between January and November this year of which 778 mm of rain was in this month alone, he said.
