Rains claim 7 lives, more rain due to low pressure
Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) Seven people, including three members of a family, were killed in rain related incidents in Tamil Nadu today, even as more rains were forecast in several parts of the state during the next 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure.
While three deaths each were reported in Kumbakonam and Chennai city due to electrocution, an 18-year-old girl died in a wall collapse at Vridhachalam in Cuddalore district.
Reports received here said three members of a family were electrocuted at Pandhalam village near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district when a high tension live wire snapped and fell on the grill gates of their house.
Md Sultan (75), who opened the gate, came into contact with the snapped wire and died of electrocution. His wife Saveera Beevi (60) and their son Syed Ali (25), who tried to save him also met with the same fate.
In Chennai city, two people -- Ravichandran (45) and Hussain (18) died of electrocution when they came into contact with a snapped live wire, while Irudhayam (59), a fishermen, slipped and drowned while fishing, at Tiruvanmiyur, J J Nagar and Pattinapakkam areas respectively.
A report from Vridhachalam said young girl Sathya (18) died when a portion of the water-soaked wall collapsed and fell on her when she entered the bathroom to have a bath.
