Pune ACB starts anti-corruption drive

Pune, Nov 23 (UNI) The city Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched a statewide anti-corruption drive through innovative methods, to create awareness among people.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vishwas Pandhare, who is also heading the ACB, talking to UNI, said ''We are trying to reach out to people by SMS'ing them and urging them to stand up against corruption.'' ''In order to reach out to a larger spectrum of society, ACB has produced a telefilm about anti-corruption awareness in various fields. The department has also put up hoardings at various important junctions of the city, sending messages against corruption,'' Mr Pandhare said.

''RTI has helped us to increase faith of the citizens in ACB. Also after the initiation of our drive, we are receiving around 900 calls a day,'' he said.

According to ACB, 60 cases were registered this year, against 74 last year.

Mr Pandhare also hoped for increase in conviction rate after the drive and added that the high and mighty also would not be spared.
