BTech girl student commits suicide due to ragging

Hyderabad, Nov 22 (UNI) Students of Osmania University today locked up the Principal of University College of Technology for some time and ransacked his office furniture for his alleged inaction on a case of ragging leading to suicide by a BTech girl student here.

It was reported that first year BTech student Harika committed suicide at her residence at Chaitanyapuri due to alleged ragging by her seniors in the college.

The girl, who had complained to the principal against some senior students, did not find a sympathetic response.

After attending the classes, she went home and committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room.

As soon as the news spread, the students attacked the office of the principal for his alleged 'inaction'. However, the timely intervention of the police brought the situation under control.

Later, various student unions called for a bandh in the University campus on November 24.

It was alleged that the principal had failed to implement anti-ragging measures in the college.

Meanwhile, the incident took a curious turn after the Saroornagar police found a suicide note wherein the girl charged her father, a BSNL employee, for his ''abrasive'' behaviour.
