Preparation in full swing for Army Mela on Nov 23
Kozhikode, Nov 21 (UNI) Preparations are in full swing for the successful conduct of the 'Army Mela,' showcasing the military prowess of the Indian Army, here on November 23.
Defence Minister A K Antony will take part in the mela to be held for the first time in northern part of Kerala, Brig P S Ravindranath, Commander, Kerala and Karnataka Sub Area, told reportes here today.
Lt Gen R K Chabra, Chief of Staff at the Southern Command Headquarters, Pune, would inaugurate the Mela which included a military pageant.
The equipment on display would comprise a Russian-built T-72 battle tank, different type of fire arms, field guns, nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
The military pageant organised as part of the day-long event included sky diving, hot air ballooning, fly past by helicopters and para motor gliding.
The programme was organised to showcase the modern and emerging Indian army to public and enabling veterans to ameliorate their problems, he said.
Mr Antony would also distribute two-wheelers to some disabled ex-servicemen at the function.
