Kamalnath promises food and power for MP's poor

Chhindwara, MP, Nov 19 (UNI) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamalnath today assured that after the Congress assumes Madhya Pradesh's reins power and food would be present in the home of every impoverished person.

''The Below Poverty Line list will be revised and eligible persons' names added on priority basis. Corruption has reached its nadir in this state and scant attention is being paid to the common man's woes,'' the Chhindwara MP -- who has addressed about three dozen poll meetings in Mahakaushal, Bundelkhand and other regions -- said in a statement here.

Referring to the problems of farmers, the poor, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other sections, the star campaigner claimed that the Congress was the true benefactor of these people and alleged that the condition of peasants in this state was adverse.

''Ryots who did not even have power connections were slapped bills and incarcerated when they did not pay up,'' he alleged.

Pointing out that interest on agricultural loans was slashed from 18 to 7 per cent by the Centre, the Minister added that Congress President Sonia Gandhi's efforts led to enhancement of support price for farm produce.
