Self Help Groups to empower women in Mewat
Chandigarh, Nov 12 (UNI) As many as 3199 Self Help Groups have been formed in the Mewat district to achieve the state government's avowed goal of empowring women and raising their socio-economic status in the society.
A spokesman for Mewat Development Agency(MDA) today said that the Self Help Groups had enlisted 46,628 women as their members.
He said that loans to the tune of Rs 37.57 crore had been issued to these Self Help Groups. Out of the total loan amount, Rs 7.40 crore had been given by the banks. An amount of Rs 1.24 crore had been given to 1597 Self Help Groups as matching grant by the MDA.
The Group Development Fund amounting to Rs 1.16 crore had also been issued to 2068 Self Help Groups by the Agency.
The spokesman said nutrition norms had also been increased from Rs two per child to Rs three and for lactating mothers and adolescent girls from Rs 2.50 to Rs five.
He said as many as 324 Sakshar Mahila Smooh had also been registered in the Mewat district to promote awareness among women of key social issues and programmes being implemented by the state government for their welfare.
