Governor calls for concerted approach to strengthen security
Panaji, Nov 12 (UNI) Governor Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu today said in modern times nature, diversity and gravity of security risks have become increasingly severe, owing to a variety of factors, that necessitates concerted approach, scientific inputs and better-evolved safety and security systems as an essential part of life.
The Governor was speaking as chief guest after inaugurating the three-day 18th international Seminar on the theme ''Security and Loss prevention Industry: Convergence-A Necessity'', organized by International Institute of Security and Safety Management (IISN), New Delhi at Donapaula in Goa.
Mr Sidhu said, ''The risks to individual and collective safety have assumed new and hitherto unseen dimensions due to the deteriorating internal and external security scenrio,with trans-national fundamentalist ideologies, cross-border terrorism, insurgencies, civil wars and other violent conflicts threatening not only human lives, but the very existence and perpetuation of the civilization and organized way of life.'' Delegates from diverse disciplines and varied sectors such as private sector industries, public sector undertakings, private security agencies, security equipment manufacturers, academic Institutions, financial institutions, banking sector, as well as Government Departments are participating in the seminar.
The Governor complimented the Institute for organizing the seminar on a vital issue and said, ''The Institute has over the years made substantial progress in its basic objective of rendering specialized professional training and expert guidence to security personnel in the industrial sector.'' The Governor also called for necessary action at the national level, international cooperation and networking of agencies around the world to examine and analyze the security scenario in an integrated manner and evolve strategies to counter threats. He said preventive measures are always better than curative.
