MNF fields Lok Sabha MP Vanlalzawma in Assembly polls
Aizawl, Nov 8 (UNI) The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) today made a change in its list of candidates, fielding sitting Lok Sabha MP Vanlalzawma in Aizawl South-I constituency for the December two Assembly elections.
As a result, Health Minister and MNF heavyweight R Tlanghmingthanga would contest from one seat only - Aizawl West-I-thereby surrendering his traditional Aizawl South-I to the MP.
Besides Mr Vanlalzawma, other candidates in the fray from this constituency are Congress newcomer student leader-turned-politician R Vanlalvena, UDA candidate K Liantlinga and some Independents.
Mr Tlanghmingthanga was elected from his home Aizawl South-I constituency in the first Mizoram Assembly election in 1987 and retained the seat till the last election in 2003.
The fact that A Lalvunga, a businessman and a prominent figure in the constituency, is contesting as an Independent from Aizawl South-I, might have forced the MNF heavyweight to change the seat, according to political pundits here.
