GJM threatens to stall developmental works in Darjeeling
Kolkata, Nov 7 (UNI) The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha(GJM), spearheading the movement for a separate state, today dropped another bombshell, threatening to stall all developmental works in the hills from tomorrow.
GJM publicity secretary Benoy Tamang said all developmental projects, being implemented by the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council(DGHC), would be suspended, as the DGHC was not utilising the Central fund properly.
He also said that all government offices in Darjeeling would also remain closed from tomorrow as part of the agitation.
Referring to Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) president Madan Tamang's allegation of a ''secret meeting'' between GJM president Bimal Gurung and State Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty, Mr Tamang said, ''Madan either should prove the allegation, or be prepared to leave the hills.'' GJM, had earlier given a deadline to Madan to prove the allegation by November 7.
GJM general secretary Roshan Giri observed that Madan Tamang should not only leave the hills, but also seek retirement from active politics.
He informed that Gorkha Janmukti Vidyarthi Morcha, students wing of the GJM, would decide the fate of Madan Tamang tomorrow.
