MoP, NTPC, JICA sign agreement
New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) Ministry of Power (MoP), NTPC and Japan International Agency for Cooperation (JICA) here today signed an agreement to undertake a joint project with technical assistance of JICA experts for ''Study on enhancing Efficiency of Operating Thermal Power Plants in NTPC -- India.'' The study will be implemented and coordinated by NTPC-Centre for Power Efficiency and Environmental Protection, which is a group specifically working on ''Efficiency Management System'' and GHG reduction for power plants in India.
This agreement is the outcome of discussions under Indo-Japan Energy Dialogue. A ''Working Group on Energy Efficiency'' was set up under this dialogue, of which NTPC is a member, and extensive discussions were held between NTPC and JICA on technical cooperation in energy efficiency.
The proposed study has two objectives namely to identify areas for efficiency enhancement in selected coal fired power plants of NTPC and to learn relevant skills and technologies from Japanese experience.
The study is scheduled to be completed in two years. The outcome of this study programme will also open up further cooperation possibilities between the two countries in this area.
