Militants shot dead in Manipur, gun battle in border areas

Imphal, Nov 2 (UNI) A hardcore militant was gunned down by sleuths of Imphal west police and Assam Rifles near Khongjong under Sepermaina police station in Senapati district on Indo-Myanmar border yesterday.

Police here today said heavy gun battle between militants and troops have been reported in the border areas.During search, we found a body with 9 mm pistol loaded with four live ammunitions and mobile phone.

Taking advantage of the darkness other militants managed to escape police added.

Police also recovered lathode launchers, huge quantity of RPG, mortar shells and some other arms and ammunition and communication equipments from the area.

Police also recovered two more bodies of the militants in Churachandpur district.

For the last two years troops and UNLF cadres have been fighting in Churachandpur,Chandel and Ukhrul districts on the border.
