No evidence of Indian Mujahideen found yet in Assam blasts: Shivraj
Guwahati, Oct 31 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said the security personnel had not yet found any evidence showing the involvement of the Indian Mujahideen in the serial blasts in Assam.
Talking to newspersons after summing up his day-long visit, he informed that the culprits responsible behind the blasts would be punished.
''The investigation is on and it is too early to come to a conclusion that the Jehadi element was involved in the blast,'' Mr Patil added.
Earlier, a local television channel got an SMS from a little known organisation called the Islamic Student Federation(ISF) claiming responsibility for the attacks.
He visited the sites hit by the blasts in Assam, took a first-hand stock of the situation and later reviewed the law and order situation at the Raj Bhawan.
''The state government should have some proposal to augment the security scenario and the Centre will help by all means'' he said.
Mr Patil arrived at the Guwahati airport in the afternoon and flew down to Kokrajhar on a special Air Force helicopter.
He on the injured people at the Kokrajhar Civil Hospital before visiting all the three blast-hit sites in the town.
Refusing to comment on the possibility of any specific group being involved in the serial blasts, he said, ''It is too premature to comment. Investigations have started. We will find out who was involved in the blasts. Any group or individual found to be linked with the incident will be punished.'' He also visited the sites affected by the blasts at Barpeta Road and enquired into the medical facilities for the injured in the twin blasts in the town.
The Home Minister was accompanied by Bodoland Territorial Council chief Hagrama Mohilary, Bodo MP S Bwiswmuthiary and state Cabinet ministers.
Arriving at Guwahati in the evening, Mr Patil visited the blast-affected areas and had a discussion on the security scenario with top state and Union Home Ministry officials.
