India defeat Pak in Punj-Aab Golf Cup
Chandigarh, Oct 30 (UNI) Punjab (India) defeated Punjab (Pakistan) by 13-11 to win the India-Pakistan Inter-Punjab Golf Championship for Punj-Aab Cup at the 72-par Chandigarh Golf Club course here today.
Played on a Ryder Cup format over three days, the Indian side led from day one and was spearheaded by H S Kang. The Pakistan team was led by the non-playing captain Zulfikar Rana.
On the final day in the 40 to 50 years category, the Indians won all their matches by convincing margins. On the other hand the Under 40 years were given a run for their money and just about managed to gather some points for themselves. In the 50 years and above category the Pakistanis gave a drubbing to their counterparts.
Over the three days which consisted of two days of team effort and one day of individual stroke play, the Indians had 13 points against the 11 points scored by Pakistan. Lots of bonhomie was showed amongst all the players and the accompanying delegates. The delegates match was won by D S Garcha with 39 points and Natasha Gill with 43 points.
Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal distributed the prizes while Punjab Director General of Police N P S Aulakh presided over the function.
