Iyyakkam volunteers arrested in Pondy
Puducherry, Oct 29: As many as 21 volunteers, including a woman of the French India Viduthalai Kaala Makkal Nala Iyyakkam, were arrested today when they attempted to observe a fast in front of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee office here to press their demands.
The Iyyakkam, which was striving for the welfare of people, who opted Indian citizenship at the time of the merger of Puducherry with Indian Union, was demanding that November one be celebrated as the Independence Day of Puducherry, instead of August 16, which was presently held and its proper celebrations.
