VBU Section Officer suspended for holding fake degrees

Santiniketan, Oct 27 (UNI) Vishva Bharati University audit department section officer Dayamay Khan was today suspended for holding fake degrees .

University sources said Dayamay was serving the University since 1969 when he joined as Library Attendent. He was to retire from the job on October 31.

A CPI(M) member, he had been elected to Sattar gram panchayat of Bolpur block thrice.

One Gopal Banerjee of his village Mohanpur moved the court under the Right to Information Act and wanted to know if his qualifications were real.

During investigation it was found that there was no certificate in his personal file following which VBU authority gave a show cause notice to him.

VBU Registrar Dr Moni Mukut Mitra later suspended him and cancelled all his retirement benefits. But to everybody's surprise it was found that Dayamay has already withdrawn 90 per cent of his provident fund.

Dr Mitra later said Dayamay would have to return all the money, including the salary he had drawn, and if he fails to do so he wold be punished according to law.
