Vaiko, film directors arrest only to satisfy me: Jaya

Chennai, Oct 25 (UNI) Reiterating her demand that the Centre must dismiss the ruling DMK government for its ''pro-LTTE'' stand, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General secretary J Jayalalithaa today alleged that the government had arrested MDMK leaders and film directors just to satisfy her.

In a statement here, she said the action against those who had supported the banned LTTE and spoke against the sovereignty of the country (MDMK leaders and film directors) was just to satisfy her as the arrests were made only after she demanded action against them.

While remaining silent when the voice in support of the LTTE gained momentum, the DMK government had arrested MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and Presidium Chairman M Kannappan, only after she had issued a statement, she claimed.

After she had questioned the partisan attitude of the government and asked why no action was taken against film Directors Seeman, Ameer, Bharathi Raja, Rama Narayanan and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan, the state government had ''half-heartedly arrested'' Seeman and Ameer, she alleged.

As Chief Minister M Karunanidhi himself was a supporter and sympathiser of LTTE, he had not come forward to arrest the film directors, while arresting Mr Vaiko on October 23.

How come Mr Seeman and Mr Ameer were allowed to take part in the human chain rally, organised by the DMK in the city yesterday and why did the police take their own time to arrest them, Ms Jayalalithaa asked. ''This shows that the two were arrested just for the sake of arrest'', she said.
