Police lathicharge protesting SP workers in UP district
Lucknow, Oct 25 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party (SP) today charged the Uttar Pradesh police with using force on party workers, when they were demanding release of its detained activists in Jhansi.
The party workers were staging a protest at a park in Jhansi over the release of the activists, detained during its three-day-long 'Ghera Dalo, Dera Dalo' agitational programme that ended on October 23, but the police batoncharged them, SP MP Chandrapal said.
The police resorted to action when the agitators took to streets to gave their arrest, he alleged.
The official sources, however, denied any police action upon the SP workers and said they were only disallowed to proceed further when they tried to break law and order.
Reports from Sultanpur, meanwhile, stated that 84 detained SP activists have been released on bail bonds.
