TN: 5 killed, 44 injured in an accident

Cuddalore, Oct 25: Five persons, including two engineers, were killed on the spot and 44 others injured when a Tata Sumo van collided with a Government bus at SIPCOT Industrial Estate on Friday, Oct 24 night. Police said the accident occurred while they were returning to the coastal town in the van. The driver lost control of the vehicle and attempted to overtake another van at Semmankuppam. The van in the process dashed against the bus, overturning it.

The deceased were identified as engineers Pankaj Kumar (24) and Sathish Kumar(24), car driver Madan(25), helper Shiv Kumar and an unidentified person.

Pankaj and Sathish were working in a private firm in the SIPCOT Industrial Estate. The former hails from Bihar.

While five of the injured were rushed to the JIPMER Hospital, two were taken to a private hospial in Cuddalore. the other injured were admitted to the Government Hospital in Cuddalore.
