C'wealth SG to discuss democracy restoration in B'desh
Dhaka, Oct 25 (UNI) Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma will arrive here tomorrow on a three-day visit to discuss with the military-backed caretaker government leaders and the Election Commissioner the progress towards restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.
He would meet with caretaker government Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed, Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury and Chief Election Commissioner Dr Shamsul Huda on October 27.
A release from the Commonwealth Secretariat said these meetings are expected to cover the ongoing collaboration between Bangladesh and the Commonwealth in various fields.
Mr Sharma would also discuss the preparations being made for general elections to be held on December 18, designed to restore representative governance in the country, as well as the progress in reformation of the democratic institutions.
The general elections were postponed in January 2007 following political violence and would be held on December 18.
