Govt announces maternity benefits for women construction workers

Hyderabad, Oct 20 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced that maternity benefit to the extent of Rs 5,000 for each consignment would be paid to the five construction workers.

The benefit would be provided for two consignments only.

This Rs 10,000 would be paid by the Andhra Pradesh Building and Other Construction Wokers' Welfare Board in addition to the maternity benefit by the State Government of Rs 1,000 and three-month wages under Maternity Benefit Act, a release here said.

The Board would have a total financial cost of Rs five crore per annum.

The Chief Minister, who held a review meeting for providing insurance to the construction workers and other labourers of unorganised sector in the state, asked the Labour and Employment Department to come out with a comprehensive health insurance scheme, the release added.
