SOG nabs man with ashtadhatu idol worth 5 crore

Chitrakoot, Oct 18 (UNI) Special Operation Group (SOG) today arrested a man and seized an ancient 'ashtadhatu' idol of Gautam Buddha in Karbi area here.

The idol was estimated at Rs five crore in the international market.

On a tip-off, SOG arrested Gopal Krishan Pandey and seized the precious idol from his possession, police said.

However, the kingpin of the gang, who was a principal at a local inter college, managed to flee.

The idol weiged 6 kg and the criminals had taken Rs 2 lakh in advance for the idol from one Awadhesh of Allahabad and were waiting for the remaining Rs 8 lakh payment before the delivery.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the gang leader.
