Gujarat govt employees to go on mass casual leave on Nov 5

Gandhinagar, Oct 17 (UNI) At least eight lakh Gujarat government employees are planning to go on mass casual leave on November 5, to protest the delay in implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations by the government.

Gujarat Rajya Karmachari Mahamandal convenor Girish Raval told UNI that the Mahamandal and the empolyees union will intensify the agitation, in case the government does not implement the recommnedations till Diwali.

Sources at state secretariat say that finance minister Vajubhai Vala Cabinet Sub-Committee, which was assigned the task of studying the pay commission's recommendations, has favoured the implementation of the recommendations.

The pay commission recommendations, if implemented, will put an additional burden of about Rs 3,000 crore on state exchequer in the first year, considering the fact that the government will have to implement it with retrospective effect from January 2006.
