Notice on plea for polls in Dental Council

Chennai, Oct 16 (UNI) The Madras High Court has issued a notice returnable in two weeks on a writ petition seeking a direction to the authorities to conduct fresh elections to the Tamil Nadu Dental Council (TNDC).

Justice K Suguna yesterday permitted the petitioner to serve notice on the standing counsel appearing for the respondents --Dental Council of India, New Delhi, State Health Secretary and the Registrar, TNDC.

In the common petition, S Murukesan and two others said the last valid election was held in 1991 and the tenure of the members had expired in 1996.

Those elected in 1991 were still continuing in office as new members were not elected.

The elections held in February 2001 were cancelled by the the government in 2003. Despite the government directions, no fresh election was conducted till date, they contended.
