LJP: India must intervene to stop suffering of Tamils in Lanka
New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan today expressed concern over the suffering of civilian population in Sri Lanka due to that government's offensive against LTTE and demanded the Indian government to intervene.
The LJP office bearers held a meeting here where a resolution was adopted expressing concern over increasing number of displacement of Tamilian population due to the ongoing offensive by Sri Lanka army against the LTTE.
The party has called for intervention of the Indian government to impress upon the Sri Lankan authorities to respect the basic human rights of the Tamil minorities to ensure that the innocent civilians do not suffer.
The party also called for resolving the issue through a political process of negotiated settlement. The resolution also states that the people of Tamil Nadu share deep cultural and emotional ties with the Tamils of Sri Lanka and the violence there was causing immense sufferings to the minorities, particularly Tamilian minority in Sri Lanka.
