{image-Jet Airways_15102008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Mumbai, Oct 15: A day after striking an alliance with rival Kingfisher Airlines, India's leading private carrier Jet Airways has decided to lay-off over 600 cabin crew and customer service officials as part of a cost-cutting exericise.

'We have laid off some 600 cabin crew and customer care executives to cut down on cost and service the expansion,' Jet sources said. 'Few media houses report that the lay offs could be as high as 1000.' In the wake of downturn in global economies, especially in US and some European countries, the airline industry is cutting down on cost. The laying off cabin crew and customer care executives is a step in that direction, a Jet Airways official said on Tuesday, Oct 14 on condition of anonymity. The move comes a day after Jet Airways entered into a strategic tie-up with liquor baron Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher Airlines.
