Tension in Deccon mill area, police resort to lathi-charge

Kolhapur, Oct 14 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the premises of Deccon Spinning Mill in Ichalkaranji town of the district today, following a scuffle between two groups of workers.

The mill went into liquidation few years back. Two months ago, the old workers launched a 'dharna' agitation in support of their demand for non-payment of dues about Rs 23 crore.

However, the company was recently taken over by K S L Industry, which hired new workers.

The agitating workers today tried to prevent K S L Industry workers from entering the factory gate in order to win their sympathy in support of their cause. However, it led to scuffle between the two groups, police said.

Then, to disperse the fighting workers, police resorted to mild lathi-charge, in which a police inspector and few workers received minor injuries, police said.

Later, about 100 agitating workers were detained to control the situtation, they added.
