SC stays arrest of Municipal Corp Chairman in Moga sex scandal
New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed till October 24 the arrest of present Moga Municipal Corporation Chairman Barjinder Singh who is facing allegations of his alleged imnvolvement in the Moga sex scandal.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and Aftab Alam also directed the CBI to file the status report within two weeks.
The petitioner has come to the apex court seeking anticipatory bail alleging that he was not named by the main victim in her FIR as an accused, but has been named by his political rivals in the statement recorded by a magistrate under Section 164, CrPC, to settle their political scores with him.
The petitioner was a corporator when the sex scandal came to light, in which a number of influential people, including politicians and police officers, are facing allegations of involvement.
