No Pakistan flag hoisted in Assam: Lt Gen Singh

Umiam, Oct 12 (UNI) General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command Lt Gen V K Singh has categorically stated that no Pakistan flag was hoisted at Mohonpur.

''No Pakistan flag was hoisted at Mohonpur, but it was a normal flag,'' Lt Gen Singh told reporters here yesterday during his visit to Meghalaya.

''It was not Pakistani, but a normal flag of a particular community in a Madrassa,'' he claimed.

He also termed the reported hoisting of a Pakistani flag as ''just a rumour''.

However, the GOC-in-C refused to comment when asked whether the proscribed National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), a tribal rebel group currently on a ceasefire with New Delhi, was behind the recent communal riots in Assam.

''I have no proof to comment on this, but the Army is assisting the district administration to calm down the situation in the strife-torn areas,'' Lt Gen Singh said.
