Six-yr-old sacrificed; five arrested

Chitrakoot, Oct 9 (UNI) Police today arrested five people, including a woman, for sacrificing a six-year-old girl to propitiate goddess Kali in the Rajapur area here.

Compelled by superstitious belief of attaining God's blessing through human sacrifice, Raniya offered 'Bali' of her neighbour's daughter Khushbu and later drank the blood as 'prashad' yesterday night, SSP D P N Pandey said today.

During interrogation, the accused spilled the beans that she used to offer 'Bali' to goddess on the last day of Navratra every year and earlier had sacrificed Khushbu's two brothers, however, remained out of suspicion, Mr Pandey said.

After learning the truth about his children's death, the father lost his mental balance, whereas the mother of the deceased children had already succumbed after her sons went missing earlier.

Meanwhile, Chitrakoot's 'sant samaj' has appealed the people to beware of such superstitions and help the police in nabbing such culprits.
