Mother hangs child, commits suicide

Kancheepuram, Oct 9 (UNI) A woman allegedly committed suicide after murdering her child at her home here yesterday following a domestic quarrel.

Police said Kanchana (29) hung her child Nandita Srilakshmi (two and half years old) from the ceiling fan before she followed suit after her husband Balakumar refused to perform Ayudha Pooja.

This morning when the husband returned home, he found the door closed and called out to his wife.

Since, there was no response he informed his father-in-law who promptly called up the police.

Police rushed to the house and broke open the door only to find the mother and the child hanging from the fan.
