Bank robbed of Rs two crore of pledged gold in Kannur

Kannur, Oct 4 (UNI) In one of the major burglaries in recent times in Kerala, pledged gold ornaments valued at Rs 1.92 crore and rupees eight lakh in cash were stolen from a cooperative bank at Ponnyam in the district last night.

Thieves got entry into the bank by drilling a hole on its wall.

The bank's strong room where the ornaments and cash were kept was found broke open.

The heist was noticed when the bank staff opened it for business this morning.

Fingerprint experts, assisted by police sniffer dogs, inspected the bank for possible clues. A special team of police officials is investigating.
