Chidambaram to inaugurate special NE summit on banking

New Delhi, Oct 3 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram will inaugurate a special summit being held here tomorrow on banking industries and credit issues in the North-east region with the emphasis on financial inclusion.

The summit, which will take an overview of the banking system in the region, will deliberate on financial inclusion of the region, industrial growth and credit system in the Northeast, expanding micro-financing in the NER, entrepreneurship through women groups and role of financial institutions in promoting investment in the region with reference to MSMEs.

Besides the Finance Minister, other participants include Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Mani Shankar Aiyar, Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers of the seven sister states, RBI Deputy Governor, Secretaries from Department of Financial Services and Ministry of Finance and other line Ministries, Chief Secretaries of North East States, Chief Managing Directors of State Bank of India (SBI), Union Bank of India (UBI), SIDBI, NABARD, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd, FINER, SEWA and Sa-Dhan, other financial institutions and organisations working the micro-finance sector in the Northeast.
