Governor hopeful of solution to Singur impasse after PM's return

Barrackpore, Oct 2 (UNI) West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi today expressed the hope that an amicable solution to the Singur issue would soon be reached with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returning to the country from abroad.

''People of the state have been long desiring a solution to this problem and I am hopeful that with the return of the Prime Minister, a positive outcome will be reached,'' the Governor said.

Meanwhile, West Bengal PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami said the Singur issue must be resolved for the welfare and development of the state.

''A little more thought from all sides could help resolve the impasse if political considerations were not given priority in this issue,'' Mr Goswami added.

Echoing the Governor's view, the PWD Minister also said the people of the state desperately wanted a solution.

''We are waiting for the outcome of the conference between Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Mr Ratan Tata to be held tomorrow in Kolkata,'' he said.

The PWD Minister, however, advocated for more transparency from the state government in this issue.
