President, PM greet nation on Id-ul-Fitr
New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today greeted the nation on the eve of Id-ul-Fitr, calling upon the people to spread peace and harmony while rededicating themselves to come forward in the service of the poor and the needy.
In her message, the President said, "May this year's festival inspire all of us to strengthen the principles of friendship and mutual goodwill among our people.
Id-ul-Fitr brings joy and happines to all and especially to those who have observed fasting during the holy month of Ramzan, she said.
The Prime Minister in his message said the festival symbolises compassion, brotherhood and the spirit of sharing.
"May this festival strengthen our resolve to spread peace, harmony and mutual tolerance among the people of our country,'' Dr Singh said.
