Genome sequencing will help to identify causes of ailments: CSIR
Hyderabad, Sept 28 : Dr. Samir Brahmachari, the Director General of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Sunday said that with the advent of genome sequencing, identifying the proteins that lead to ailments has become easier.
Dr. Brahmachari was speaking on the second day of the four-day 13th Human Genome Meeting (HGM2008) in Hyderabad, which began on September 27.
"Genome sequencing will lead to customized drugs or personalized medicines," said Brahmachari, and added that such medicines would, however, cost more.
Around 1200 scientists and delegates are attending the mega event from 44 countries.
The exhibition at the meet is drawing a huge crowd that is eager to know about the latest products in the market.
The Human Genome Organisation (HUGO), an international body of scientists involved in research in Genomics fostering international collaborations in genomics for human health, has chosen India to commemorate its 20th anniversary by holding its HGM2008 in Hyderabad.
Prof. Brahmachari is the Chairperson of HGM2008.
The CSIR institute, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), Delhi, is the organizing partner of this meeting.
