Centre to impose more restriction on NE mobile phone users
Agartala, Sep 24 (UNI) Ministry of Telecommunication is in the process of imposing more restrictions on mobile phone users of Northeastern states following recent bomb blasts in New Delhi, Amhedabad and Bangaloru.
According to report, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was convinced with the intelligence inputs that the anti-Indian forces had been using NE region as safe corridor with telecommunication facilities including mobile and internet for networking and subsequently, it asked Telecommunication ministry to take the issue seriously.
The ministry had earlier changed rules for licensing to vendors and restricted on providing roaming facilities to the prepaid mobile phone users of the region while more than thousand villages near international border were not extended the mobile service, report said.
The ministry is also authorised to cancel license of any vendor if it issues mobile phone to anyone without proper verification and the strict guidelines for subscriber verification were formulated in August this year when an increasing number of cases of improper verification were reported from the region, report added.
