BJP demands sacking of Jamia Millia VC Mushir-ul-Hasan
New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Strongly objecting to Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Mushir-ul-Hasan's statement that the Jamia University would provide all legal help to the two alleged terrorists arrested by Delhi Police, the BJP today demanded immediate sacking of the Vice Chancellor, saying his conduct was anti-national.
Senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the Vice Chancellor's statement amounted to an "anti-national activity" and he must be sacked forthwith by the Centre which had appointed him to the post.
BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ''VC taking such a stand is unfortunate and condemnable. Jamia Millia Islamia University is not run on a charity but by tax-payers money. The Centre is funding the University. How can he utilise funds in this manner?'' he asked.
''The Government must remove him following his uttrences,'' he added.
Mr Malhotra, who was an MP from the South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency in which the University is situated, said the two Jamia students--Mohammed Shakeel and Zia-ur-Rahman--were accused in Delhi serial blasts and therefore arrested by the Delhi Police, directly under command of the Centre like the University.
Mr Hasan's statement that the University would fund legal aid was not only atrocious but also anti-national and there should be no liniency on the part of the Centre to remove him immediately.
Since both the agencies Delhi Police and Jamia Millia Islamia University, were directly under control of the Centre, there should be no delay on the part of the UPA government to take action against the Vice Chancellor, the BJP Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha said.
