Water nears danger level in Pong dam, alert sounded
Dharamshala, Sep 22 (UNI) A high alert was sounded today by the district administration following sudden rise in water level of Pong dam reservoir in this district and people living on the banks of the river Beas have been cautioned to keep away from the river waters.
Bakhra Beas Management Board authorities at Talwara revealed that the water level in the 42 km long Pong reservoir had reached 1388 feet today, just two feet down from the danger point.
SDM Nurpur Inder Bhardwaj said the Shah Nehar head works division Talwara has flashed messages to the DCs of Kangra, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur and Kapurthala to caution the general public to keep away from the river bank as the authorities might release 50,000 cusecs excess water in river Beas downstream Shah Nehar barrage at any time.
