Terror in Jammu after suspected militants noticed

Jammu, Sep 22 (UNI) Panic gripped the city last night after a group of people believed to be militants were noticed on the outskirts of the winter capital, sources said today.

''Around three suspected militants hired an auto-rickshaw from Sunjuwan area on the outskirts last night and asked the driver to proceed towards Kaluchak area but on reaching near Greater Kailash, they pushed the driver out of the vehicle,'' police sources told UNI.

Police and security forces, on receiving the information, launched a search operation in Sunjuwan, Greatekr Kailash, Channi Himmat and Kaluchak areas .

''The driver told the security forces that all the three suspects were in salwar-kameez and carried bags. They hijacked his auto-rickshaw at gun-point and later escaped leaving the vehicle at an isolated place,'' sources said.

various nakkas (check posts) in and around the walled city were put on high alert. Security forces on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway were also alerted about the possible movement of the suspected militants.

However, panic gripped the entire area on the outskirts and local people kept up vigil for the whole night, they said.

A massive search operation was launched in the national highway, However, the suspected militants could not be traced.
