Print media is more important than electronic; Dasmunsi
Kolkata, Sep 22 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi has said print media is more important than its electronic counterpart.
Speaking in prize distribution ceremony of the first ever 'Excellence in journalism' awards 2008 here yesterday, jointly presented by Shyam Steel Industries and Candid Communication, Mr Dasmunsi said the journalists in print media file a story after careful studies and understanding.
On the other hand, the electronic media captures the moments and comments of various people from different walks of life and goes on air, he added.
''To me, print media is more important'' he said.
During debates in Parliament, I always find that print media is helpful in fetching the documents in support of some argument, he added.
Therefore, we value the judgement of print media immensely, he elaborated.
''When I think of the Indian journalism, I feel very confident because of the strength they contribute to democracy,'' the minister expressed.
Mr Dasmunsi also honoured veteran sports journalist and renowned author Moti Nandi with Lifetime Achievement Award.
