Tehsildar, 2 others nabbed while taking bribe

Ludhiana, Sep 19 (UNI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today nabbed a Tehsildar, a cashier and a gunman red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an NRI.

VB SSP K S Sandhu said here that the NRI had struck a 'deal' with the Tehsildar who had demanded a bribe for change of names in a power of attorney. The NRI informed the VB and a trap was laid to nab the Tehsildar, Arvind Verma.

Mr Sandhu said that the Tehsildar was nabbed by a VB team headed by DSP Ravcharan Singh Brar. Besides the Tehsildar, the VB team also took into custody cashier, Parminder Pal Singh and a Punjab Police constable, Birjinder Singh, who was the gunman of the Tehsildar.

The three were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Later the VB team raided the private residence of the Tehsildar at Jalandhar and seized 47 bottles of Scotch whiskey, Rs 1.40 lakh cash and two unlicensed guns. A seprate case under the Excise Act, Arms Act and Prevention of Corruption Act was also registered at Jalandhar.
