Engineer organised blood donation camp on daughter's birthday

Agartala, Spt 19 (UNI) Inspired by Chief Minister Manik Sarkars call to make blood donation an annual event for every family,Ajoy Majumdar an engineer, organised a blood donation camp on his daughters birth day, near here yesterday.

This is the first incident of such kind in the state where 36 people of Majumdar's family, neighbours and relatives of the village had donated blood while the Majumdar couple has announced to organise the event every year and appealed the villagers to follow the practice.

There was acute shoratge of blood in the hospitals of the state since long and chief minister had launched the campaign for blood donation.

He had personally attended more than 300 camps in various parts of the state.

Mr Sarkar is successful in his campaign as most of the clubs, associations and professional bodies made blood donation a convention to meet the challenge.

Voluntary blood donation in Tripura has become a sort of movement for people from all streams of life coming forward for a noble cause.

Even the surrendered militants who had been in relentless killing and bloodshed in the state were also donating blood.

According to report, Tripura was ranked third in the country after West Bengal and Maharastra in voluntary blood donation with the record of 85 percent donation.
