Anti doping rules approved for application in India

New Delhi, Sept 19 : Newly constituted Governing Body of the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) met Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. M.S. Gill here today.

During the meeting, the Governing body approved the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) Code for its application in India. It also approved Anti Doping Rules of NADA which are expected to come into force from October 1, this year.

These Rules will lay down all procedures and rules for sample collection, testing, sanction to be imposed and rights or responsibilities of athletes and supporting personnel.

Under these rules, anti doping disciplinary panel will also be set up under Amicus Juris, which will hear cases of athletes who have been tested positive and impose the sanction on their athletes as per rules.

Similarly, anti doping appeal panel will also be set up under an eminent jurist who will hear appeals against the decisions of the anti doping disciplinary panel. In addition to above, Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee comprising of specialist medical professionals will be constituted which will grant exemptions to athletes who are under medication in genuine ailments.

The Governing Body has also approved the finance bye laws and service and recruitment rules of NADA so that it can become fully operational soon.

It also approved the empanelment of doping control officers and chaperones to be posted all over the country, who will after the selection, be trained for sample analysis and thereafter they will conduct tests of the athletes on the directions of NADA.
