65 per cent voters turn out in ULBs elections in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Sep 19 (UNI) Over 65 per cent voters today exercised their franchise in the elections to the 90 Urban Local Bodies(ULBs) in Orissa which remained by and large peaceful, State Election Commissioner Sanjeeb Chandra Hota said.
Elections were held in 1503 wards spread over 2854 polling booths across the state to decide the fate of a little over 5900 candidates.
Election to the Boudh notified area council was postponed to September 23 as flood waters entered the area.
Similarly, two wards in Athmallick NAC were submerged in the flood water forcing the authority to postpone the elections to September 23.
State Election Commission(SEC) sources said barring minor incidents of technical snag in the EVM machine in a few polling booths, the elections passed off peacefully in the state.
The counting of ballots would be taken up on September 20 and the result would be announced on the same day, the SEC sources said.
