CCEA nod for scheme for education of disabled children
New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave approval for the introduction of a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme of ''Inclusive Education of the Disabled at Secondary State (IEDSS)'' enabling all disabled children passing out of the elementary stage (class VIII) in government, local body and government-aided schools for enrolment in the secondary stage.
Briefing newspersons on the outcome of the CCEA decisions, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the new scheme has been put in place of the existing scheme of 'Integrated Education for Disabled Children' with an expenditure of Rs 1,260.80 crore during the Eleventh Plan period.
An estimated 5.20 lakh disabled children will be provided education in an inclusive setting during the Eleventh Plan, he said.
These settings would also be made disabled- friendly in terms of infrastructure and resource support teaching learning material.
