Govt college students stage demo to press demands
Puducherry, Sep 17 (UNI) Students of the Government Tagore Arts College here today locked their college and held a demonstration to press their demands.
The students had been agitating for the last four days demanding filling of the vacant teachers' posts, introduction of college buses and allowing more private buses to ply via the college.
Acting on information, a police team led by superintendent Sivadasan rushed to the college and held talks with the students.
However, they refused to call off their agitation and said that they would take out a procession to the education department to picket it. Police informed them that they would have to arrest the students if they took out a procession.
In the meantime, officials from the education department reached the college and held talks with the students and assured them their grievences would be redressed within a week,following which the students called off their agitation.
